Actually, it's quite good. And factually pretty spot on.
I love walking around miami, or used to, the hotels are cool, the history of the place is interesting- Tarnished or not the area is fine by me. I just can't stand the relentless assault by non-winter killed bugs. I'll keep my midwest, and visit fla when I can.
Thanks, Og. That bit at the end about me gladly taking South Beach over Lake Michigan was humor.
While I'm no more a fan of six month long winters than I am of six month long summers, I actually enjoyed time by the lake in the snow.
Still, I can't complain about the warm weather right now. I went to work wearing just a t-shirt today. Actually, I wore pants too, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, I agree with you on the bugs. Any day now I expect one of those giant palmettos to carry my dog away.
I really enjoyed your piece. Quite funny, especially when you compare views of rusted out bridges and the "Benneton Factor."
If Trancedo is smart he'll blame his short-sighted opinion on a substance abuse problem and enter rehab forthwith.
I mean really, I've been to Miami and I really liked it. Weather aside (because I HATE being in anything colder than 80 degrees) I found the people there to be helpful and friendly. Plus, water temperatures make swimming a pleasant experience in Miami (unlike, say, where I live where you swim in the ocean at the risk of developing hypothermia within fifteen minutes.) Can you tell I'm jealous of you?
Very good article, and no one should have given you any grief over it.
The negative comments about Miami from people who don't live here simply show their ignorance.
However, as a Miami Native, yes, I was born here, it is the total acceptance of brutal crime in our community that troubles me. I guess it is cheaper to pretend it doesn't exist than to actually work on solving that problem....
So we all know how to act. Be nice & don’t do crime, kick puppies, or start forest fires. But those are easy. The tough rules these days seem to be manners and etiquette governed only by common sense. I didn’t invent the good sense standard, but I am laying claim to it. I’m not Emily Post. I don’t care which fork you use. But I will call out boorish behavior and give kudos for civility. Join me as I comment on how we act. And together we’ll teach folks how to act right again.
