JB It seems at least some of your professional peers also seek to provide pertinent information about meaningful matters. For that I can only be happy. (I also see where a McClatchy White House reporter called out Dick Cheney for hiding behind himself as an "unnamed source" in Afghanistan--I'm liking your conglomerate's ethos more and more).
I'm wondering though--just what exactly is a "major event" concerning the little fellatrix who is not only famous for being famous(a la Zsa Zsa), but also famous for being infamous (a la Monica, the world's most recognized oral orifice)? The only major event left for this untalented product of daddy's money is some sort of untimely Anna Nicole style death, after which there would be a lengthy retrospective showcasing selections from the video that sparked her popularity among white knuckled frat boys.
A ban on Paris Hilton stories is a worth goal, but it's going to be hard to do. Especially since she's so easy .. uh .. visible and says such stupid things.
I do think it would be possible to ban her name from ALL BUT the entertainment stories. And at least limit the number of times she's mentioned.
But, doesn't a newspaper, or entertainment writer gotta give the people what they want? Even if what they want is really, really pathetic?
However, I banned Paris from blog when the tape of her using all the racial slurs came out. So, unless she makes another sex tape (which is a very real possibility) she doesn't get any pub from me.
BD, I can't add anything to what you've said without getting myself in trouble. So...
Interesting you should ask Jay about what the readers want. I'd have assumed too that they want more Paris, Britney, etc., but I recently saw/heard some reader survey material that suggested otherwise.
Sarc, good point.
Hammer, I think this might be the good kind of self censorship, tantamount to self control.
Kitliz we're on the same page.
Dayngr, I think the experiment lasted a week before the AP realized how tough a task it would be to fully ignore her. I still applaud 'em for trying.
So we all know how to act. Be nice & don’t do crime, kick puppies, or start forest fires. But those are easy. The tough rules these days seem to be manners and etiquette governed only by common sense. I didn’t invent the good sense standard, but I am laying claim to it. I’m not Emily Post. I don’t care which fork you use. But I will call out boorish behavior and give kudos for civility. Join me as I comment on how we act. And together we’ll teach folks how to act right again.

I'm sure she's crushed! lol ;-)

With all the attention on Anna Nicole, who'd even notice??

Self censorship by a media source.
We haven't seen anything like that since the days when journalists ignored the fact that JFK screwed anything with a pulse.

Thanks for pointing out this article. All I have to say is: AMEN.

Let's see how long that lasts...

Queen, I couldn't agree more.

I know. I read that this morning. Blech. But at least they tried. I totally agree.
One thing's for sure: no one will EVER institute a Burnett ban! :-)

MB, you're gonna make me sheepish!

Yay! That gives me at least a little bit of hope.
